About Contributing Author Dr. Charles A. Doswell III
2Buck Chuck is AH’s resident scientist. World-renowned for his research in the field of severe weather meteorology, Dr. Charles A. Doswell III brings a hard science perspective to the show. Unrelenting in his demands for evidence, and firm in his commitment to the scientific method, 2Buck doesn’t mince his words. His deeply introspective and consistently rational approach to the problem of religious zealotry and governmental meddling stands strong in support of the show and its purpose: Defending freedom and liberty for all citizens.
Dr. Charles A. Doswell III was raised in the Chicago suburb of Villa Park, IL, through high school. He did his undergraduate work at the University of Wisconsin, in Madison, WI, graduating in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science in meteorology. He began his graduate work at the University of Oklahoma (OU) in meteorology with a minor in mathematics the following fall, then completed his Master of Science degree in January 1969. After beginning his doctoral studies at OU, he was inducted into the U.S. Army in the fall of 1969 and served 2 1/2 years, including a tour in Viet Nam and another at White Sands Missile Range, NM. After leaving active military service, he returned to his doctoral studies, graduating in the summer of 1976. He then spent six years with the Techniques Development Unit at the National Severe Storms Forecast Center, in Kansas City, MO. In 1982, he moved to Boulder, CO, joining the Weather Research Program. In the fall of 1986, he moved to the National Severe Storms Laboratory in Norman, OK, and retired from federal service there in January 2001. Since then, he has been working part-time as a Senior Research Scientist with the Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies, which is affiliated with the University of Oklahoma. He is president of C. Doswell Enterprises, Inc., which incorporates his activities as a scientific consultant and photographer.

Dear Charles Doswell,
I very much enjoyed your article on “Government Funding of Science – How it Works”. I will be pointing people in that direction whenever the subject comes up.
I was missing a debunking of part 2 of the deniers argument – which is that “scientists gets funding for showing that ‘A’ causes ‘B’ “. In reality the peer reviewers would laugh you out of the room for already having made your conclusions. What you, of course, apply for funding for, is to find out the consequences of ‘A’, and from previous research you expect ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’ might happen but don’t know how likely they are. And you always have to allow for unexpected things to come – that is, after all, what research is about.
Thanks for fighting the fight for reality. It is fascinating and sad, how popular it is nowadays to just declare for facts, what has been freshly pulled out of somebodys grasshole… Sorry, – that was a little graphics. Hope you don’t mind.
Best wishes,
Regner Trampedach, Astronomer at JILA/CU Boulder.
