World War of the Gods

If anyone ever doubted the reason for the 9/11/2001 attacks on the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and the ill-fated Flight 93 that crashed into a field in Pennsylvania… If folks still wonder why thousands of people around the world die violently every day in a hail of gunfire and explosions… Consider the reality of one simple fact. The World is at War. It is a War of the Gods.
On 9/11/2012 the end of the Arab Spring has brought with it attacks on United States diplomatic compounds in Libya and Egypt resulting in the deaths of a U.S. Diplomat and embassy security forces. It was a violent response to free speech criticism of Islam by some U.S. citizens in a film on the Internet. What makes this series of events unique, is the fact that the Arab Spring was supposed to be a vehicle for Middle East revolution and democracy. But, the cornerstone of any democracy is the ability to speak freely. Freedom of speech is paramount to the success of any attempt to democratize. But, as it turns out, Islamic zealotry, much like Christian zealotry, is winning the day. Free speech be damned.
Go ahead and pin any excuse to critical world events of the past 11 years. Go ahead and blame the governments, politicians, policies… whatever floats your boat. Go ahead and blame secularism too while you’re at it. Because, when it comes right down to it, none of those excuses holds a drop of water. What’s really at work here… What really deserves the full weight of cause and effect is religion.
What we face today is nothing short of a World War of the Gods. Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are at war. In no uncertain terms, these three religious ideologies are continuing a historical battle that has murdered millions of human beings and tortured and maimed many more. This war has been an epic struggle between who’s skydaddy is legit, and at the expense of human being’s freedom of conscience. This war doesn’t follow logic. This war doesn’t subscribe to reason. This war doesn’t care a rat’s ass about facts and evidence. It is a war that seeks only one definitive outcome. Total domination and tyranny over humanity. Human autonomy is forbidden.
I want you to keep in mind a very important point that the recent attacks on the U.S. embassy and consulate underscore. Freedom of speech is being threatened. And it’s not just Islam that is willing to attack it. President Obama responded to the violence by saying that the United States “rejects all efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others — but there is absolutely no justification for this type of senseless violence. None.” It is obvious that the Obama administration is pushing a politically correct, extreme left, restriction on freedom of speech by claiming that denigrating a religion, as opposed to a person, is considered unacceptable speech. Apparently critique of religion is verboten, and the free market of ideas is closed for business. The second thing to keep in mind is presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s criticism of the Obama administration’s response to the violence. He said that it was “a terrible course for America to stand in apology for our values … Apology for America’s values is never the right course.” Romney is defending freedom of speech here, but what most people don’t realize is that he’s only defending speech he happens to agree with. In the end, none of the sides involved in this affair are defending freedom and liberty for all. None of the actors in this orgy of violence and rhetoric are defending freedom of speech. What they are defending is their version of how their particular god should be represented. The Islamic extremists god is offended by everything. The Obama administration’s god is offended by everything that isn’t what a kinder gentler jesus would do, and Romney’s god is offended by all the false gods of everyone else. But, it’s just another battle to be fought on the front lines of the World War of the Gods. Right? By the way… Whatever happened to Pussy Riot? Freedom of speech? What’s that?
Folks, it’s the twenty-first century, and following more than two thousand years of death and destruction, humanity still hasn’t learned a fucking thing. Reason does not prevail. Logic does not prevail. Evidence is dismissed or suppressed. The human condition is, and always will be, in a state of a World War of the Gods. Get used to it. Because, it can only get worse from here.
In the immortal words of Buck Murdoch from the movie “Airplane II”… “Oh, cut the bleeding heart crap, will ya? We’ve all got our switches, lights, and knobs to deal with, Striker. I mean, down here there are literally hundreds and thousands of blinking, beeping, and flashing lights, blinking and beeping and flashing – they’re flashing and they’re beeping. I can’t stand it anymore! They’re blinking and beeping and flashing! Why doesn’t somebody pull the plug!” Buck… Ah Buck… They can’t pull the plug. They’re too busy blinking, beeping and flashing… and torturing, maiming, killing… and silencing one another.
