At What Price… Faith?
(Editorial Comment from host RJ Evans on his American Heathen® radio show – Air Date 02/04/11)
Religious faith kills hundreds of thousands of people every year. A bold statement? No. Faith kills men, women and children with abandon everyday. Because faith is unabashed ignorance of fact and reality. It was religious faith that flew jets into the world trade center. It is religious faith that hunts abortion doctors. It is religious faith that delivers helpless sons and daughters to deaths doorstep on the fanciful mythical wings of a parent’s rejection of modern medicine. It is religious faith that demands death and retribution for simply living life, for being human, for rejecting myth. Religious faith kills for vengeance, lust, money, power, fame. Religious faith kills truth, reality, and justice for all. Religious faith destroys self-esteem, pride, honor, integrity, loyalty. Religious faith kills equality. Religious faith murders for religious faith. Religious faith kills for a crime where no crime has been committed.
But, religious faith isn’t just a cold heart-ed killer. Religious faith has many faces. Religious faith is a hypocrite, a philanderer, a thief, and a liar. Religious faith is violence, bigotry, racism and hate. Religious faith is also the world’s most dangerous addictive drug. It’s also a plague of disease carried by rats of every description. So, I ask… Why is religious faith held up as a virtue? How can there be any virtue in self aggrandized ignorance? How can there be any virtue in cold-blooded murder? How can there be any virtue in addiction? How can there be any virtue in disease?
What is religious faith? It’s blind obedience and ignorance born of fear. Religious faith requires the abandonment of reason and logic. Then it requires total surrender, in the interest of self-preservation, to a human authority supposedly appointed by a god. Then the message to “believe” to “have faith” is issued by the human authority to the masses that the authority wants to control. But there’s more… Because lack of faith is a killer – and faith’s own holy words bear testimony to this fact – folks aren’t going to spend a lot of time using their critical thinking skills with the threat of death looming over them. But, faith also demands that the faithful use death as a threat. It creates an atmosphere of superiority, of dominance, authoritarian mandate over anyone who does not embrace its blindfolded dogma. Having sharp vision and individuality of thought makes faith nervous. Faith is threatened when reason and logic expose it for what it is. And exposing faith for the sham that it is requires faith to silence its detractors at all costs. In faith, one can escape the ravages of exposure by turning off the bright lights of reasonable doubt. Killing is a necessary part of faith.
Earlier tonight, we talked about two recent acts of faith. One, a man and a woman, stoned to death in Afghanistan for adultery. Here we see that the issuer of faith interprets, prosecutes, judges, then executes the faith slave. The execution, carried out by the faithful, is brutal and definitive. And the issuer of faith’s requirements does it out of faith for faith, and with the help of the faithful. The interpretation of the holy scripture, based in faith, must be enforced with faithful prosecution, judgment, and execution, and it must enhance and support their faithful interpretation based in, of all things, faith. Two, a young man is charged with blasphemy, a lesser offense by some faith standards. But, not here. The punishment, based on faith, must fit the faithless, victimless crime… or should I say, the punishment must fit the faithful interpretation of the faith in order for the interpretation and faith to be validated. Once again the same cycle. The interpretation of the holy scripture, based in faith, must be enforced with faithful prosecution, judgment, and execution, and it must enhance and support their faithful interpretation based in, of all things, faith. The faithful, leading the faithful down the path of faith. All of it manufactured by sentient beings in an effort to control other sentient beings for the sole purpose of pure human selfishness.
So, what am I getting at? Well, let me just say that I think we need more selfishness… I mean “virtue”. Therefore, I have decided that Biblical Law should be enforced as prescribed in the Bible. We are a “Christian Nation” after all, and therefore, without question, the law of the land, as prescribed by the 10 Commandments and the Biblical punishments for all prescribed offenses, must be adhered to regardless of one’s “faith”, degree thereof, or lack thereof. The faithful must lead the faithful, and the faithless, down the path of faith to faith. In order to enforce the faith, one must have faith in everything the Bible says and demands. All reason and logic must be disposed of. Let’s start with public executions in full view of all citizens in order to reinforce the faithful interpretation and thereby reinforcing faith. Mandatory viewing for all! Children included! Death is prescribed for most everything in the Bible you know.
Anyway… Wait a second! Better yet… You know… everyone should participate in the executions! Hey kid’s! As a special offer… Get three bags of high quality rocks , guaranteed to bludgeon the godless bastards to bloody hell, for only $5.99! Show your skydaddy how much faith you have by participating in the fun and excitement of having totally blind faith! Show all your friends what a good little god weeny you are! Just send $5.99 plus $2.00 shipping and handling, along with a statement of your undeniable faith in god to…
Com’on now! ALL must understand that faith should never be questioned. Remember, it’s a virtue! Don’t believe me? Well, com’on now… Have a little faith. Better yet… read your Bible. What are the punishments for breaking any of the 10 Commandments? Death. Yeah. Death. Look it up! Of course, I would add an 11th commandment… Thou shalt know all 11 commandments by heart or otherwise… death!
I’ve talked about the absurdity of religion every week on this show for years. But, I have to ask… When does religious absurdity become so ridiculously absurd that those who actually believe the absurdities of this shit finally get a fuckin’ clue that it’s absurd? Faith is absurd! More-so, it is an abomination and it should be condemned at every turn. It is vile, disgusting, inhumane, dastardly, barbaric, and a blight on the landscape of humanity. It is unethical, immoral, and unjustified in every sense. And, it deserves no respect under any and all circumstances!
Don’t agree with me? You will when faith suddenly demands the ultimate sacrifice at the hands of faithful who will simply kneel in selfish prayer when a brilliant and blinding flash of light appears on the horizon. But the light will not be the face of their myth, or the return of their savior. It will be the fiery molecular mingling of millions of innocent human beings with the cosmos… faith’s last act of faith.
