Atmosphere of Toxicity
Bill Sparkman, a 51-year-old substitute teacher and census worker, is the latest victim of the war over political and religious ideologies. His body was discovered in Daniel Boone National Forest, Clay County Kentucky. He was found hanging, his chest scrawled with the word “Fed”. Sparkman’s murder comes on the heels of other murders in the name of ideological lies, supposition, and paranoia. George Tiller, an abortion doctor from Wichita, KS, was shot dead a few months ago by a religious zealot who’s twisted religious world view promotes cold blooded execution. He suffered the same fate as Bill Sparkman. Both were innocent victims. Both were executed over ideology, and I’m afraid others will soon follow as a constant stream vitriol continues to flow from the CNP (Christian Nationalist Party) bloviators, and the media madness instigators Limbaugh, Beck and Hannity. As the intensity of verbal attacks, based on outright lies and deception continues to increase, as the vile bullshit slithers its way through cyberspace and the mainstream media, the atmosphere in America is becoming so toxic that the very idea of truth, fact, and evidence suffocates. Civil unrest is growing. And, in the wake of this excretory snake, the number of dead will continue to grow.
What has become of our country? To what can we attribute the vicious stench of uncivil, unwarranted, heinous and disgusting dung? I place blame firmly and squarely on religion. Yes. Religion. Without the dynamic and putrid stench of religious belief, a delusion of monumental proportions, we would not have to suffer the slings and arrows of this ideological Armageddon. Fundamentalism, thought to be a dead or dying influence on American politics following the ’08 defeat of the Christian Nationalist Party, has cheated the odds. It’s influence on populace Nationalism, and the political landscape of Washington, was never really dead. Although disorganized, unable to mount legitimate policy attacks, it still had an ace up its sleeve. Lies. Lots and lots of lies. That, and the politicians, the leftovers of the past 8 years under the Bush administration, still walk the halls of Congress, and two Supreme Court Justices, Scalia and Thomas, still hold rank and file with the zealots. Bought and paid for by the religious right, these political ticks, with the help of the right wingnut media, continue to suck the life blood from the Republic, and infect it with a case of bullshit fever. Without a transfusion, what’s left of America will soon grow pale, sunken, and eventually die.
American’s do not grasp the peril that they, and religion, have brought upon this nation. In their ignorance, they have unleashed self-fulfilling prophecy. The end times. Their skydaddy delusion is manufacturing the demise of this country, one lie at a time. With each tall tale, with each outright lie, the Republic is slowly disintegrating into chaos. The electorate is forcing the end times upon themselves, and taking the rest of us with them. And, the religious ideological zealots are feeding the flames of this suicidal destruction. Every second of every day is part of a countdown to self annihilation and the outrageous belief that a messiah will come to save them. Disorder, uncivil discourse, chaos, all based in the filth of lies, supposition, superstition and fear, are a dire warning. Take heed. If we do not stand up to the delusion of religious political ideology, we will ALL become extinct.

RJ, I’m not seeing the religious link to the census worker in the link you give. Do you have any more or do you just mean the current unrest and the rush to bring on Armagaeddon? Because that I have noticed. And it scares the bejesus out of me.

No religious link there, as far as I know. I am just referring to the general rush to bring on Armageddon. The anger against any, and all who oppose, a narrow and bigoted world view, a paranoid hatred of anyone who doesn’t espouse any particular ideology. Suspicion, where none is due. Distrust based in false notions and ideas.

Anti-governmentalism.
Oh – I’m so confused. Should I post that here because I think that’s why they killed the census worker, or should I post it on the other thread because that speaks to “Anti” everything.
Here or there? Hmmm.

Sad part is that I know various classes of people who swallow these lies…
Mouth-Foamers: These people can’t even speak the word Liberal without foaming at the mouth and calling them Nazis while screaming about it in public. Arguably the most dangerous of the three, the Mouth-Foamer represent the hate and lies their talking heads produce and dream of taking over things with as much violence as possible while gloating about how Obama is lucky “they didn’t bring their guns this time.” Pretty much make McCarthy look like a lamb.
Apathy Dreamers: Who gives a shit about the problems of the world (unless some televangelist\pundit tells them they should care about something) because they accept Jesus as their savior and will be going to heaven when the rapture comes. They find little joy in almost anything else and rag about how things have gotten evil.
The Well-Meaning: They’re good people who do care about things and can be even pleasant to be around, but like the Mouth-Foamer they absorb any hysteria though they are a lot more restrained about it and like the Apathy Dreamer, also dream of a day when God’s judgement will come down on everyone else. They’re the kind of people who send you e-mails about how the world is going to hell because people are more accepting of gays and TV shows don’t all want to be Ozzie and Harriet. The sad thing about The Well-Meaning is that when it comes to their fellow Christians, they have the naive belief that as long as that person is a fundamentalist Christian (especally politicans) they are automatically good, competient, honest people and any bad deed can be brushed aside because they’re “forgiven.”

Sadly, I think we’ve got to acknowledge a fourth kind, Yaoi. Another kind of apathy. They may or may not be religious.
This is the set I admit my daughter belongs to and she’s not. The you-can’t-fight-City-Hall type. They’ll couch it in language like I’ve got bigger things to worry about (like there’s anything bigger than your freedom) or I just can’t worry about that or can’t get worked up about every little thing. When I expressed concern about text book content the other day, she says I’m gonna teach him not to pay attention to any of the nonsense he learns in school. Oh, yeah, that’s just great. I don’t think it’s ignorance so much as it is denial.
And, believer or nonbeliever, they seem to have a form of Apathetic Dream too. Their’s is the it’ll all blow over one. Miraculously. Meaning someone else will fight the fight while I lay low.
